Condition Overview
VITILIGO
Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition characterized by the loss of pigment, leading to irregular white patches on the skin. It can affect individuals of any age or skin type, often causing significant emotional and psychological impacts due to its visible nature. While the exact cause remains unclear, factors like autoimmune responses and genetic predisposition are commonly linked to its development.
At Dermasurge, we prioritize personalized care to manage vitiligo and restore skin confidence. Dr. Hiba Injibar, a leading dermatologist, employs advanced diagnostic tools and evidence-based treatments—such as phototherapy and topical solutions—to slow progression and encourage repigmentation. Our goal is to empower patients with effective strategies for healthier, more even-toned skin.

Symptoms
- Vitiligo is a chronic skin disorder marked by the gradual loss of melanin, resulting in depigmented patches.
- It typically manifests as smooth, milky-white spots on the hands, face, elbows, knees, or genital areas.
- Autoimmune dysfunction, where the immune system attacks melanocytes, is a primary contributing factor.
- Genetic predisposition, sunburn, or emotional stress may trigger or exacerbate symptom progression.
- Melanocyte destruction disrupts pigment production, leading to irregular patch formation.
- Vitiligo can vary from localized (small, isolated areas) to universal (widespread depigmentation across the body).

causes
Vitiligo develops due to a complex interplay of factors that disrupt melanin production. While the exact origin remains uncertain, research highlights several key contributors. Identifying these causes helps tailor effective management approaches for individuals experiencing pigment loss.
Autoimmune Dysfunction
The immune system mistakenly attacks melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells. This autoimmune response destroys melanocytes, leading to depigmented patches characteristic of vitiligo.
Genetic Predisposition
A family history of vitiligo increases susceptibility. Specific genes linked to immune regulation and melanocyte function may heighten the risk of developing the condition.
Oxidative Stress
An imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants damages melanocytes. Environmental triggers like UV exposure or chemical agents can exacerbate this stress, accelerating pigment loss.
Neurochemical Factors
Nerve endings in the skin may release chemicals harmful to melanocytes. This theory explains why vitiligo sometimes appears in areas affected by trauma or chronic stress.
Professional Treatments
Narrowband UVB Therapy stimulates melanocyte activity and promotes repigmentation in depigmented patches through controlled ultraviolet light exposure.
Excimer Laser targets specific areas with focused UVB rays to restore pigment, improving skin tone uniformity in localized vitiligo.
Topical Immunomodulators reduce autoimmune attacks on melanocytes, encouraging gradual repigmentation while minimizing inflammation.
Micropigmentation uses medical-grade tattooing to camouflage white patches, blending them with the surrounding skin for a balanced appearance.

Dr Hiba saved me. I need to see someone urgently about a fast growing/change growth under my eye. Dr Hiba took me in on her break. She did a wonderful job on removing the growth at a sensitive area. Stitches out this morning and it is almost invisible. Professional, soft-spoken – could not recommend her enough!
I had nose Surgery with Dr Hiba Injibar. I couldn’t be happier with the results. From the initial consultation, it was apparent that Dr Hiba Injibar has a lot of experience in the procedure which made me feel very secure.
